North Korean defector diplomat Lee Il-kyu accuses North Korean human rights on international stage

2024.10.28 AM 11:01
Former North Korean diplomat Lee Il-kyu, including the North Korean Embassy disaster in Cuba, calls for international solidarity to improve North Korean human rights ahead of the U.N.'s regular review of North Korean human rights.

The Ministry of Unification said it will hold the "2024 International Dialogue on North Korean Human Rights" in Geneva, Switzerland, for two days from the 28th local time to publicize the situation and strengthen solidarity in the international community ahead of the UN's review of human rights in North Korea and UPR next month.

The event will begin with a video congratulatory speech by Unification Minister Kim Young-ho, and discussions will continue on North Korea's human rights, including the former disaster and Ko Young-hwan, the first secretary of the North Korean Embassy in Congo.

UPR is a system in which 193 U.N. member states take turns to deliberate on their human rights situation and whether their recommendations are implemented, and it is the first time in five years that UPR has been in North Korea.
