Because of this, not a few consumers give up making kimchi, but the distribution industry has launched a last-minute discount event for the full-fledged kimchi season.

This is an agricultural and fishery market in Seoul that is in full swing during the kimchi-making season.
Consumers' expressions have become brighter with the price of cabbage that has fallen sharply this month.
[Kang Hong-hee / Sangam-dong, Seoul: I'm feeling that cabbage prices are falling a little bit these days. I'm thinking of making kimchi a little later.] The price of cabbage, which was close to
, fell by more than 60% in a month to 3,000 won per head as autumn cabbage shipments began in earnest.
However, compared to last year, it is still more than 20% high.
Radish and chives, which are major kimchi-making vegetables, are also down from last month, when prices soared, but they are 20-70% more expensive compared to a year ago.
[Jung Dong-yeol / Gayang-dong, Seoul: I'm here to buy radish for the kkakdugi wall for the store. When I first started, it was about 900 won or 1,000 won, but now it's 3,500 won to 4,000 won, so it's gone up a lot....]
The retail industry has entered a last-minute discount competition targeting consumers preparing kimchi and the so-called "Kimpo people" who gave up making kimchi.
First of all, GS The Fresh has extended its pre-booking of pickled cabbage and kimchi until early next month, and Homeplus and E-Mart will start offering additional discounts on kimchi ingredients until the middle of this week.
Nonghyup has also started a discount event for up to 44% of 10kg of cabbage at Hanaro Mart nationwide.
From the middle of this month, if shipments expand in Honam, the largest producer of cabbage, the price of cabbage is expected to fall further than now.
The government plans to continue providing up to 40% discount on kimchi ingredients, and attention is being paid to whether it will be able to lower the cost of kimchi for consumers who have already risen.
