Although the Serious Accident Punishment Act was implemented in 2022, industrial accidents continue to increase.
According to the data submitted by Kim So-hee, a member of the People's Power, from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the number of workers who suffered industrial accidents last year was 136,700, the highest ever.
By industry, manufacturing and construction industries accounted for the largest number of people, with 32,000 each, followed by transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications industries.
The death toll has been around 2,000 for the past six years, and 1,033 people were found to have died in industrial accidents by the first half of this year.
Representative Kim pointed out that practical preventive measures and safety management measures are needed as industrial accidents continue to increase even after the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
