Underage Housing Purchases Close to 3,000 Over 5 Years...Deprived by 'gold spoon'

In the past five years, the number of purchases of underage homes has reached 3,000 and the amount of purchases has exceeded 500 billion won, raising criticism that a thorough investigation is needed.

According to an analysis of the "Purchase Status of Minor Homes and Buildings" received by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 17th, the number of purchases of minors over the past five years (2019-2023) was 2,964, with about 519.8 billion won.

Considering that the buyer is a minor, it is estimated that a significant number of purchased homes are either real estate owned by parents or have been transferred through gifts and inheritance.

As of the first half of this year, the number and amount of housing purchases by minors decreased compared to the previous year. There were a total of 88 house purchases, with about 17.477 billion won used as the purchase amount.

Both the number of purchases and the amount were less than half compared to the previous year, presumably due to a decline in real estate transactions as real estate prices slowed in the first half of the year.

In the past five years and six months (2019~2024.6.), the cumulative number of homes purchased by the top 100 minors reached a total of 535, and the total purchase amount was 67 billion won.

According to the analysis of the top 100 in the number of underage home purchases, 10 of them are under the age of 10 and 90 houses were purchased for 8.855 billion won.

A total of 65 teenagers bought 339 units for 43.51 billion won. Twenty-five people, who were minors at the time of purchase but are now in their 20s, bought 106 houses for 14.73 billion won.

The top two people, who had the highest number of home purchases, bought 22 houses each, with purchases of 2.37 billion won and 1.33 billion won, respectively. In particular, buyers who bought 22 bonds for about 2.3 billion won were less than 10 years old.

Representative Ahn Do-gul said, "Multi-homeowners seem to be purchasing houses in the name of their underage children or transferring wealth through gifts and inheritances," adding, "The National Tax Service needs to thoroughly investigate whether there were any tax evasion, expedient gifts and inheritances in the transaction process."
