Next year, there will be no limit on the number of bottles of alcohol that overseas travelers can bring into Korea without paying taxes.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok said at a press conference at the Sejong Government Complex today that he will revise the enforcement rules of the Customs Act in this direction in the first quarter of next year.

Currently, overseas travelers can bring in up to two bottles of alcohol duty-free from the limit of 2L and 400 dollars, of which only the limit on the number of bottles will be removed.

Choi said consumer options would be expanded, although not a big change.

Deputy Prime Minister Choi also said he will cut the duty-free shop patent fee rate by 50% from April next year in consideration of the sluggish duty-free shop industry.

If this happens, the burden of duty-free shops is expected to be reduced from 40 billion won to 20 billion won per year.
