This morning, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and others held a rally near the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul, and confronted the police in protest of the martial law statement announced by President Yoon Suk Yeol.

It has now been disbanded due to police control, but there is concern about congestion on the way home from work as nearby roads are blocked by crowds in an instant.

Let's connect with the reporter and hear more details.

Reporter Lee Hyun-jung, did a rally take place near the presidential residence?

[Reporter]
Yes, progressive groups such as the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions held a rally calling for impeachment until just after 6 p.m. on the 300m. street of the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul.

In an instant, a large crowd gathered, and they confronted the rally participants for a while, preventing police from heading to their official residence.

The police continued to order the dissolution by broadcasting and restricted entry by building a barrier on the road leading to the official residence.

You are watching the CCTV footage on the road at that time.

Nearby roads have been blocked for a while, with six lanes completely closed.

Car traffic is gradually becoming available now, but there is concern about traffic congestion ahead of the full-fledged way home from work.

Today, the pro-impeachment rally was held at the same time, so there was concern about conflict, right?

[Reporter]
Yes, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and others departed from Seoul City Hall this afternoon and moved near the presidential residence, chanting slogans such as impeachment of the Yoon Suk Yeol, arrest, and dissolution of the people's power.

After a press conference near Seoul City Hall, the organizers tried to march to Yeouido, where the People's Power Party is located, but immediately after President Yoon's statement was announced, they changed their route to the presidential residence.

Near Seoul City Hall, which was the starting point, conservative groups also held a rally against the impeachment of President Yoon, which was feared to cause a clash, but there was no physical conflict.

As pro- and anti-impeachment rallies continue throughout the city, the police are still on their toes in case of an accident.
