U.S. President Joe Biden has called the death of Palestinian militant Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar "a moment of justice."

"The death of leader Hamas was a moment of justice," Biden, who visited Berlin on the 18th local time, told a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

When news of Sinwar's death was reported on his trip to Germany the previous afternoon, President Biden issued a statement saying, "Now there is an opportunity for a political solution that can provide a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza, which is not ruled by Hamas."

"It's a rare opportunity to end this terrible war and speed up the delivery of humanitarian aid in Gaza," U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who traveled to Brussels, Belgium, to attend a meeting of NATO defense ministers, also told a news conference.

The remarks are interpreted as a clear indication of the U.S. government's willingness to resume stalled ceasefire negotiations in Gaza in the wake of Sinwar's death.
