The Japanese government said North Korea's projectile this morning toward the East Sea was an ICBM-class ballistic missile with a flying distance of 1,000 kilometers and a maximum altitude of 7,000 kilometers.

It also said the projectile flew for 86 minutes.

Japanese government spokesman Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference today, citing information from the Defense Ministry.

The Japanese government also explained that North Korea fired a ballistic missile at a high angle and fell outside the country's exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Ken Nakatani told reporters that the North Korean ballistic missile was launched at 7:11 a.m. and fell at 8:37 a.m., possibly the new missile, with the longest flight time among launches so far.

He then explained that he is working closely with South Korea and the United States to analyze the information.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said North Korea fired ballistic missiles and said there was no damage information.

At the same time, he ordered the prompt provision of information to the people and thorough safety checks.
