Oh Se-hoon's proposal to raise the age of the elderly "in order to seek a solution"

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon responded to Lee Jung-geun, chairman of the Korea Senior Citizens Association,'s proposal to raise the legal age for senior citizens from 65 to 75 and said, "It is time to find a solution."

Mayor Oh said on his SNS that the elderly generation first offered a new path at a time when a sustainable and manageable social welfare structure was desperately needed.

He also said that next year, the proportion of the elderly population will become a super-aged society that exceeds 20%, and he was concerned that the burden on future generations is reaching an unaffordable level.

Oh said healthy and active "active seniors" are emerging as new leaders in production and consumption, adding that the city will also gather wisdom on the steps toward a better future.

Lee Jung-geun, chairman of Booyoung Group, who took office as the 19th president of the Korea Senior Citizens' Association on the 21st, officially proposed to the government at the inauguration ceremony to raise the legal age of senior citizens in stages for 10 years, one year a year, from the current 65 to 75.
