The Ministry of National Defense said Kang Ho-pil, deputy chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will be appointed as the ground military operation commander on the 4th.

Captain Kang has been acting as the ground military operation commander since early last month as it became difficult for the existing commander Son Sik to carry out his duties for health reasons.

Jijaksa was created in 2019 by integrating the Army's 1st Field Army Command on the Eastern Front with the 3rd Field Army Command on the Western Front, and the commander is tasked with overseeing forward ground defenses.

General Kang was appointed as the deputy head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff along with the promotion of the general in April this year, and as General Kang moved his position, the deputy head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is expected to concurrently serve as one of the chiefs of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for the time being.
