Foreign media reported that nearly 10 Israeli soldiers were killed in a limited ground war with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli military said on social media on the afternoon of the 2nd local time that eight people were killed in ground operations in Lebanon.

The Israeli military said two officers and four soldiers were killed during the fighting in the 621 Special Reconnaissance Unit, also known as the Egoz Unit.

Also killed were a scout and a medic from the Gollani Infantry Brigade, which were additionally deployed to the Lebanese front.

This is the first time the Israeli military has been killed in action since the Israeli military launched a limited ground war in southern Lebanon the previous day.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "We are at war against the axis of evil in Iran," and offered condolences to the bereaved families of soldiers killed in the fighting.

At the same time, the Israeli military said on social media that its special forces brigade had removed more than 150 major Hezbollah facilities through close combat.

Israel launched a ground operation early the previous day targeting Hezbollah facilities on Lebanon's southern border, sending back ground forces after 18 years.

The Israeli military said it had deployed additional infantry and armoured personnel from the 36th Division to Lebanon's ground war.
