NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory has photographed and released the most powerful X9-class solar flare of this solar cycle.

NASA said it captured the flare, which occurred three days local time, with two ultraviolet wavelengths.

A solar flare is a phenomenon in which energy accumulated in the sun's twisted magnetic field is suddenly released.

Large scales that disrupt radio waves throughout the planet and cause long-term radiant storms in the upper atmosphere are classified as X-class, intermediate-class as M-class, and small ones that do not affect the planet are classified as C-class.

In February, an X6.3-grade flare was detected.
