Following the physics prize the previous day, this year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry was also given to three researchers who used artificial intelligence and AI machine learning to uncover the secrets of proteins.

The Nobel Committee of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that David Baker, an American biochemist who contributed to the "protein design prediction," Demis Hassabis, head of Google's AI company DeepMind, which developed an AI model to identify protein structure, and John Jumper, an American chemist, won the prize jointly.

The Nobel Committee said they "discovered the secret of proteins through computers and AI," adding, "There are two different discoveries, but these are closely related to each other."

"David Baker succeeded in building a completely new type of protein, and Hassabis and Jumper developed an AI model that predicts the complex structure of proteins," he explained.

According to the Nobel Committee, proteins regulate and manipulate all chemical reactions that are the basis of life, and the discovery has tremendous potential.

Baker is a professor of biochemistry at the University of Washington and an adjunct professor of bioengineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, and physics.Hersavis, dubbed

the father of AlphaGo', is a British computer engineer and DeepMind CEO, while American chemist Jumper works as a researcher at DeepMind.

Herbis, who is not a chemist, has received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry as an extraordinary event, and Jumper, who is 39 years old this year, was recorded as the youngest winner in 72 years.

A day earlier, the Nobel Prize in Physics was also given to two pioneers in AI machine learning using artificial neural networks, and this year's Nobel Prize in Science is in an atmosphere where the AI sector is making strides.

The prize money is 11 million Swedish krona, which is about 1.34 billion Korean won, and the three will share it.

Following the Chemistry Prize, the Nobel Committee will announce the winners of the Literature Prize on the 10th, the Peace Prize on the 11th, and the Economics Prize on the 14th.

On the 7th, Victor Ambrose and Gary Loveken, American biologists who contributed to the discovery of microRNA as Nobel Prize winners in physiology and medicine, and John Hopfield and Jeffrey Hinton, who established the foundation of AI machine learning as Nobel Prize winners, were selected on the 8th.

The Nobel Prize ceremonies will be held in Stockholm, Sweden and Oslo, Norway, respectively, on Dec. 10, Alfred Nobel's anniversary.
