Israeli and Egyptian intelligence chiefs met in Cairo to discuss resuming ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, Israeli media, including the Jerusalem Post, reported.

Ronen Bar, director of the Israeli intelligence agency Sin Bet, is said to have secretly visited Cairo and met with Abbas Kamel, director of Egypt's national intelligence service.

It is the first time since August that a senior Israeli official has visited Cairo.

In a secret meeting, the two reportedly discussed resuming hostage negotiations and addressing the presence of Egypt and Gaza's buffer zone, the "Philadelfi corridor."

The Jerusalem Post noted that the meeting came at a time when the Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, who had been out of touch for a while, reportedly resumed contact with the Hamas negotiating delegation in Qatar.

Sinbet is said to have declined to comment on the talks.
