A U.N. rapporteur's warning that an expansion of Israel's military operations in Lebanon could lead to hunger, as in Gaza.

According to the Guardian on the 13th local time, Michael Parkley, the U.N. special rapporteur on food rights, observed that raising the level of Israel's military operations against Hezbollah could lead to an exponential increase in Lebanon's hunger and malnutrition rates.

According to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), Lebanon's food situation has already begun to deteriorate after a Palestinian militant Hamas raid on Israel in October last year triggered war in Gaza.

The Hamas-backed Hezbollah war on the border with Israel has also disrupted crop production by evacuating 40% of local farmers.

In the middle of last month, it was becoming increasingly difficult for civilians to secure food as Israel significantly increased the level of attacks on Lebanon.

In Gaza, where the war has been going on for more than a year, 96% of the population is suffering from hunger and 50,000 children are found to be acutely malnourished.
