A man in his 20s, who planned to share the salary of an ordinary soldier in the military and enlisted instead under someone else's name, was put on trial.

It is the first time since the establishment of the Military Manpower Administration in 1970 that proxy enlistment has actually been detected.

The Chuncheon District Prosecutors' Office arrested a man in his 20s on charges of violating the Military Service Act, obstructing the execution of hierarchical official affairs, and violating the Resident Registration Act.

According to the investigation, Cho conspired with Choi, who was originally supposed to join the army, decided to share the military salary and joined the army by proxy to resolve food, clothing, and shelter.

In fact, Cho entered Hongcheon Army Recruitment College in Gangwon-do in July with Choi's ID card and served in the military for three months, and Choi, who conspired to commit the crime, turned himself in to the Military Manpower Administration, saying he was afraid.

Cho, who joined the military as a proxy, reportedly joined the military under his name in the past and was discharged from the military due to mental health problems.

The Gangwon Police Agency, which took over the case from the Military Manpower Administration, sent Cho, who entered the military on behalf of him, to the prosecution at the end of last month, and Choi, who originally had to join the military, sent him without detention.

In the meantime, crimes that have avoided military service, such as disguising mental illness, have occurred steadily, but this is the first time that a proxy enlistment has actually been made.

Currently, the enlistment process of the Military Manpower Administration is based only on ID cards, and for this reason, it is often difficult for field staff to clearly confirm whether the actual enlisted soldier and the person on the ID are the same person.

The Military Manpower Administration will consider introducing iris recognition or facial systems to prevent a recurrence after this incident.

On the other hand, the monthly salary of general soldiers in the military is 640,000 won for private, 800,000 won for private, 1 million won for corporal, and 1.25 million won for sergeant, and 400,000 won for preparation for tomorrow, an asset formation fund, is paid every month.
