Gyeonggi Southern Office's National Audit Office criticizes 'Dongtan Sexual Crime Innocence Case'

In a parliamentary audit of the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency conducted by the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee yesterday (14th), there were voices pointing out the police's inadequate response to the "sexual crime innocent incident" at the Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province.

Representative Yang Boo-nam of the Democratic Party criticized the police's attitude to prosecute somehow, saying that Hwaseong Dongtanseo even insulted a young man who went to the bathroom as a molester without giving him the right to refuse to state his statement.

Rep. Park Jung-hyun of the Democratic Party said, "I know that the police are under severe pressure whether the number of sent cases has become an indicator of the outcome of the investigation," and pointed out that the problem is that the police do not follow due process and have fewer manpower in the investigation process.

In response, Kim Joon-young, head of the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency, said investigators visited and apologized to innocent victims of sexual crimes, and replied that they will strengthen education and inspection to prevent recurrence in relation to what lawmakers pointed out.
