A 'medium-sized root company' headquartered in the Seoul metropolitan area can hire foreigners at local businesses.

Even if the headquarters is located in the metropolitan area, mid-sized companies with local operations will be able to hire foreign workers.

The government confirmed today (17th) a plan to improve employment permit requirements at the 44th Foreign Personnel Policy Committee chaired by Bang Ki-sun, chief of the Office for Government Policy Coordination.

Previously, foreign workers could only be hired at corporate workplaces with their headquarters in the non-metropolitan area, but in the future, foreign workers can also be hired at non-metropolitan workplaces of mid-sized companies in the root industry in the metropolitan area.

The root industries are casting, mold, heat treatment, and welding, which are the basis of the manufacturing industry.

Bang Ki-sun, the head of the department, said at the meeting, "We expect to be able to use foreign personnel smoothly in the field. Please work hard on safety management so that foreigners can work after familiarizing themselves with safety rules."
