◇Anchor> On my way to work, it seemed that it was raining little by little and it was gradually raining a lot. It is said that this rain is accompanied by thunder and lightning and is as strong as heavy rain in summer. How much does it rain?

◆Airport Jin> The rain is not unusual. It's raining in the west right now, and the areas where it falls a lot are pouring 20mm of rain per hour. Jeju Island is coming a lot, but the rain is gradually getting thicker on the west coast of Gyeonggi-do or Chungcheongnam-do. It is expected to rain a lot mainly from this afternoon to tomorrow morning until dawn, but the amount of rain in Seoul usually falls a month and a little more than 50mm in October. However, as shown in the table, the expected rainfall is about 20-60mm, so I think that the rain that will fall in Seoul a month is pouring this time.

In particular, heavy rains such as summer rain of 80mm or more are expected in many places, and one thing to be aware of is that strong rain of 20 to 30mm per hour is expected. So you have to be prepared so that there won't be any damage from the rain. In particular, torrential rain of up to 100mm is expected on the southern coast, including Busan, and up to 120mm is expected on the eastern coast of Gangwon-do, so you should prepare. Isn't it especially the time when fallen leaves fall these days? So, when the fallen leaves fall, there are cases where the sewage cannot fall out properly by blocking the drain. If you remove the fallen leaves, it is expected that the water can easily fall out. Before this rain, the rain has started, but the strong rain has not begun yet, so it is not too late, so you should do some maintenance now.

◇Anchor> Commissioner, do you usually have this strong fall rain?

◆Airport Jin> When autumn rain is strong, it usually rains this strong when a typhoon comes, but it doesn't rain this hard in October. But the reason why it's raining so hard is because the weather was a little hot last week. As the temperature rises in the middle of the day, the cold air from the north is very strong in a state of a lot of heat. So, the strong cold air and the hot air staying in Korea collide severely and become very unstable. When it becomes unstable, it can create strong, very high, large rain clouds.

So when rain clouds are strong and high, the amount of water vapor contained in them eventually increases. And in particular, there is an air flow that supplies water vapor at a height of about 1,500m called a lower jet. Since the flow of air is expected to approach Busan, that is, to the south, there is a possibility of up to 50mm of such heavy rain per hour in Busan and Gyeongnam, which are likely to be affected by this lower jet.

So, it's raining in autumn, but it's probably raining like summer, so you can think of it as if you're preparing for it like it's raining in summer. So, the water may suddenly rise, so you should be careful of these usual trails on the southern coast of Busan and the eastern coast of Gangwon-do, where it is expected to rain a lot. First of all, it would be better to thoroughly prepare for habitual flooding areas where rainwater does not drain well in advance.

◇ Anchor> This rain was accompanied by strong winds. The instantaneous wind speed is more than 20m per second, isn't this typhoon-class?

◆Airport Jin> That's right. The standard of typhoons is defined as typhoons from 17m per second. So, 20m can be considered a small typhoon, but of course, it doesn't mean that the average wind blows, but it means that there are instantaneous gusts. If there is a momentary gust and a strong wind of 15m/s, you will probably experience many of these experiences, such as severe shaking of branches. In particular, if there is a momentary wind gust, the problem is that weak facilities can fly. Things like falling signage can cause secondary damage.

So, there doesn't seem to be any special danger around you while you're on the road, but something can fly and cause some damage to your body, so I think it can be a way to prevent secondary damage by firmly fixing facilities that are weak in the wind. In particular, very strong winds are expected to continue in coastal areas. Because of this wind, it seems that there will be high waves in the wind and waves, that is, in the sea. There is a high wave of up to 4m and the difference between the high tide and low tide is approaching in the future. So this can increase the height of the incoming tide as a whole. So, since the stream may cross the breakwater, it is better to be prepared especially on the coast so that there is no flood damage, and it is better to keep small ships firmly tied.
