The tuition fee paid by medical students at National University who applied for a leave of absence in protest of the government's policy to increase medical schools is close to 15 billion won.

According to the data submitted by Kim Young-ho of the Democratic Party of Korea from nine national university medical schools nationwide except Seoul National University,
The total amount of tuition payments for medical students who applied for a leave of absence for the first and second semesters of the
2024 school year was 14.757 billion won.

By school, Jeonbuk National University had the highest amount of 2.599 billion won, followed by Kyungpook National University with 2.18 billion won, Busan National University with 2.13 billion won, and Chungnam National University with 1.988 billion won.

Universities must return tuition fees if they are granted leave of absence, but if a student is paid, it is not recognized as a leave of absence under the school regulations, so there is no need to return tuition fees.

Nine national universities, except Seoul National University, are withholding approval for students to take a leave of absence due to the Ministry of Education's position that it does not allow them to take alliance leave of absence.

If a massive leave of absence is not recognized and medical students are paid, they will not be able to return the tuition they have already paid, raising the possibility of a series of lawsuits for financial losses.
