A man in his 30s who hit a taxi driver drunk and stole a taxi and drove drunk was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence after acknowledging and reflecting on his wrongdoings.

Chuncheon District Court sentenced 30-year-old A, who was charged with assault, theft, and drunk driving, to one year in prison and two years of probation, and ordered him to take 40 hours of probation and compliance driving lectures.

A was put on trial on charges of swearing and assaulting a 51-year-old taxi driver B when he woke up in front of an apartment in Inje, Gangwon-do, saying he had arrived at his destination on February 28.

The investigation found that A assaulted a taxi driver who said he would not accept the fare and drove 1.5 kilometers with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.168% far above the license cancellation level while the taxi driver was away from the scene.

In the past, Mr. A had his license revoked and fined for drunk driving.

The court said it has a history of being punished for similar crimes in the past, requiring severe punishment, but has given a suspended prison sentence on the condition of probation and order to attend classes, taking into account the fact that they admit and reflect on their wrongdoings.
