There is still a so-called dance challenge craze that uploads and imitates dances or movements with short videos.

Especially among teenagers and 20s, it has settled as a play culture.

This year, we analyzed which challenges were widely popular and why.

This is reporter Park So-jung.

[Reporter]

[Kim Somi / Seoul Mullae Middle School 2nd grade: Tangtanghulu?]

[Im A Yeon / Naebalsan-dong, Seoul: These days, beeping beeping....]

[LEE GUNHO / Seoul Oebalsan-dong: Maratanghuru?]

[Park Young-jin / Chuncheon-si Gyodong: Because a pretty cheerleader is dancing....]

[Park Soo-hyun / Jeong-dong, Seoul: A cat walking on the Han River...].]

It's a dance that became a hot topic.

A short video of a professional baseball cheerleader dancing casually with cosmetics in his hand when an accompaniment song called "Samjin Out Song" came out instead of fixing his makeup,

Tens of millions of views have been recorded, even imitating American cheerleaders and pop stars (Olivia Rodrigo).

"Please buy me Malatang. OK. Let's go. Do you want to join Tanghulu?"

The most popular dance of the year is 'Maratanghuru'.

It is a song released by elementary school YouTuber and idol singer Seave in April, and it has become a popular challenge that follows men and women of all ages with addictive melodies and fun movements like shooting.

[Serve / Elementary school creator and singer: I wanted to make my own challenge because I only did other people's challenges. "Hmm, ha." It was supposed to be "Hap." But I changed it to this, and I slightly changed simple moves, but....]

"Cat walks over the frozen Han River."

Frozen river, a cat walking carefully over it.

As news reports became belatedly popular three years ago, a dance challenge with choreography on the music, as well as all kinds of parody videos, were created.

Recently, the Ombrigne Challenge, also known as Brazilian dance, has soared in popularity.

I asked 6th graders of elementary school to show me what's popular these days, and it's called this doodle dance.

Easy to do with simple music.

Doing a new dance challenge together has become a play culture among elementary, middle and high school students.

[Park Jin-yeon / 6th grader at Seogyo Elementary School in Seoul] "Who is this? Do you know this?" Since then, I've been doing it together, saying, "Wow, I want to try it, too.".]

[Hwang Ji-woo / 6th grader at Seogyo Elementary School in Seoul] I think I became a famous person just by singing a famous song.]

'Challenge',
which means to make a short video of a particular behavior or habit, etc. and share it and imitate it.
Among them, there are hundreds of thousands of dance challenges a day.

There are many videos posted by singers to promote new songs, but not all are popular.

Then, what do you have in common with the dance challenge of the topic?

1) Above all, it's a short form, that is, simple music and dance suitable for a short video, so it's good to follow,

2) Cute and friendly content rather than stimulating, and simple fun rather than deep meaning.

3) It is also characterized by accidental capture rather than intentional creation, and having unexpected fun.

[Kwon Jung-yoon / Seoul National University Trend Research Institute] It's full of provocative content. In a way, even dangerous things are consumed a lot on video, so it's not cute or small or harmful to me that I can enjoy comfortably....]

It is consumed mainly by young people, but sometimes it is with parents and grandparents and is characterized by age, gender, and cross borders.

Experts say that the dance challenge craze will continue for quite a long time as there is a culture of self-efficacy by posting videos whether they dance well or not.
