Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by phone with former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate of the United States, Israel's prime minister's office said.

"Prime Minister Netanyahu has repeated what he has said publicly," the Israeli prime minister's office said in a statement on the 20th local time. "Israel has said it will consider the issues raised by the U.S. administration but will ultimately decide according to its national interests."

The Biden administration issued a message to Israel emphasizing the end of Gaza after the death of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar was announced on the 17th.

In the meantime, Netanyahu has been at odds with President Biden, who has pressed for a ceasefire with Hamas and opposed escalation.

Earlier, former President Trump said at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania the day before, "Netanyahu called and said, 'Unbelievable thing happened,'" adding, "If we had listened to Biden's advice, Israel would not be in the same position as it is now."
