Libyan arrested for plotting attack on Israeli embassy in Germany

Federal prosecutors in Germany say they have arrested a Libyan man for plotting an attack on the Israeli embassy there.The suspect, identified as Omar, of the Libyan nationality


, was arrested at his home in the Bernau area outside Berlin on the evening of the 19th local time.

Prosecutors said the suspect planned to carry out a gun attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin and "exchanged information with IS members."

Local media said the arrested suspect is believed to have entered Germany in November 2022 and applied for asylum in January of the following year, but was rejected in September of the same year.

"We prevented the attack on the Israeli embassy in time," said German Interior Minister Nancy Pezer, "and it is of paramount importance to us to protect Jews and Israeli institutions."

"Muslim anti-Semitism is not just a hate crime," Israel's ambassador to Germany said on social media. "It is leading to terrorist activities around the world."
