It has been pointed out that franchise headquarters are effectively forcing merchants to pay cash.

Kang Myung-koo, a member of the People's Power, said in a parliamentary audit of the Fair Trade Commission that most franchise companies do not allow credit card payments to store owners or go to a designated place to pay with credit cards, so they are actually accepting payments only in cash.

In response, Fair Trade Commission Chairman Han Ki-jung said, "We will double-check whether there are any violations of the law regarding the payment method and take strict measures if there are any violations."

According to the data received by Kang Min-guk from the Fair Trade Commission, only 13 out of 39 franchise headquarters in four major industries, including bakery, chicken, coffee and cosmetics, were able to pay for both cash and credit cards.
