Day, 31 years of resolution to dismantle nuclear weapons...Nobel Prize group demands nuclear-free treaty turned a blind eye

The Japanese government has submitted a resolution to the first committee of the U.N. General Assembly for the 31st year this year, Kyodo News reported.

In the resolution, the Japanese government cited the decision by a group of atomic bomb survivors to win this year's Nobel Peace Prize, urging nuclear powers to avoid an arms race because there are no winners in a nuclear war.

Kyodo News said this year's Japanese government resolution is almost the same as last year, except for adding facts over the past year, including the selection of Nobel Peace Prize winners by a group of Japanese atomic bomb survivors.

The resolution stopped short of mentioning that Japan's group of atomic bomb survivors is paying attention to the entry into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and the TPNW, which the Japanese government has demanded to join.

The TPNW was adopted by the United Nations in 2017 as a treaty that completely prohibits activities such as the development, production, stockpiling, use, and threat of use of nuclear weapons, going beyond the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and the NPT.

However, countries with nuclear weapons, such as the United States, China, and Russia, and countries that receive nuclear umbrellas, such as Japan and South Korea, are not participating.
