The Ministry of National Defense announced that from the 7th to today (23rd), 22 female soldiers in the Asia-Pacific region were trained to strengthen the UN Peacekeeping (PKO) capabilities in cooperation with the UN Women's Organization.

The Ministry of National Defense explained that the second PKO training for women this year was one of the pledges announced at the U.N. Peacekeeping Ministers' Meeting in Seoul in 2021 and was part of efforts to expand the participation of female agents in U.N. peacekeeping operations.

At the Women's United Nations Peacekeeping Forum, which was held with more than 100 participants, including the Ministry of National Defense's international policy officer, the head of the U.N. Women's Organization's Gender Equality Center, ambassador to Korea, and cadets, Lt. Col. Lee Seong-yeon (Jin), who is still serving as a liaison officer in Syria's Golan Heights, delivered vivid experiences.

Lee Seung-beom, international policy officer at the Ministry of National Defense, said in a welcoming speech that female PKO personnel are key players in carrying out missions through communication with women and children at the forefront of PKO missions, and he hopes there will be a consensus on the importance of participation.

Through this forum, the Ministry of National Defense promised to actively implement the women's, peace and security agenda emphasized by the United Nations, and to work harder to expand female troops' participation in PKO and cultivate professional manpower.
