The prosecution appealed against the first trial's ruling that sentenced Lee Young-bok, who killed two coffee shop owners in a row, to life imprisonment.

The Goyang branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutor's Office submitted an appeal to the court yesterday (23rd) for a life sentence for Lee Young-bok, who is accused of robbery and murder and violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act.

Earlier, the prosecution asked the court to sentence Lee Young-bok to the death penalty, saying that the risk of recidivism is very high if you look at Lee Young-bok's antisocial tendencies.

However, the court said that Lee Young-bok's crime is extremely poor, but it is difficult to say that Korea is a de facto abolition country and that there are special circumstances to admit that the death penalty is justified.

Lee Young-bok was arrested on December 30 last year and January 5 this year on charges of killing two female business owners in their 60s who were operating alone in two coffee shops in Goyang and Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, and running away with their money.

Lee Young-bok, who has a number of previous convictions, including theft, was found to have committed another crime less than two months after he was released from prison in November last year.
