Prosecutors have demanded a fine of 3 million won for Kim Hye-kyung, the wife of Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is accused of serving meals with a corporate card in Gyeonggi Province during the last presidential election.

The prosecution argued that the crime was serious, and Kim denied the charges, and the first trial will be sentenced on the 14th of next month.

In August 2021, Kim Hye-kyung, the wife of Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea, met with a total of six people, including the spouses of former and current lawmakers of the Democratic Party.

The total cost of the meal was 104,000 won, and the cost was paid by the Gyeonggi-do corporate card.

The prosecution charged Kim with violating the Public Official Election Act, seeing it as a donation, and sought a fine of 3 million won, just like the final trial in July.

He stressed that the crime is serious regardless of the amount because he tried to buy politicians' spouses to help them win the presidential election.

He also criticized the executive secretary for shifting responsibility to subordinates and trying to escape, saying that he could not have paid without instructions.

On the other hand, Kim Hye-kyung strongly denied the allegations in her final statement, saying she had never been involved in the crime or had her secretary pay for it.

However, as a politician's wife, he said he would be careful not to make small cases in the future.

The lawyer also repeatedly explained that Kim did not know that all six of them had paid for their meals with the corporate card.

The first trial sentence for Kim Hye-kyung is scheduled for the 14th of next month, and unfortunately, on the 15th, the next day, the first trial is scheduled for Lee Jae-myung, who is also accused of violating the Public Official Election Act.
