About one in two Muslims living in the EU, the EU, have experienced "routine discrimination," a survey found.

According to a report published by the FRA, the EU's basic authority, on the 24th local time, 47% of Muslims in 13 EU countries surveyed experienced discrimination, up 8%p from 39% at the time of the same survey in 2016.

Among the 13 countries, Austria had the highest percentage of respondents who experienced discrimination with 71%, followed by Germany with 68% and Finland with 63%.

Among the cases of discrimination, 39% were from immigrant families and 25% were discriminated based on 'religious beliefs'.

The survey was conducted over a year from October 2021 on 9,604 Muslims living in 13 EU member states.

"Discrimination against Muslims in Europe is surging alarmingly," said FRA Director Sirpa Rautio, adding that it has intensified into the Middle East conflict, and is exacerbated by inhumane anti-Muslim rhetoric across Europe.

He then urged countries to strengthen sanctions against discrimination and hate crimes, along with improving policies to resolve discrimination.
