Israel has launched three retaliatory airstrikes against Iran.

The screen you're looking at is Tehran, the capital of Iran.Above the

building, you can see a series of lights falling in the night sky, and you can hear explosions.

Syria's state-run news media, citing Iranian officials, said it repelled Israeli attempts to attack Tehran and some areas.

The New York Times, citing Israeli officials, reported that more than 100 drones and fighter jets were involved in the attack, which ended around 5 a.m.

The Israeli military also said it had completed the Iranian operation, warning that it would pay for Iran's retaliation.

What is Iran's position and the damage?

[Reporter]
According to Iran's semi-official media, Iran says it is ready to respond to any Israeli aggression and there is no doubt that Israel will respond proportionally to whatever it does.

Iranian authorities say Israeli attacks took place in three states, including Tehran,
An air defense system called
intercepted the attack, but reported limited damage in some areas:

No specific damage has been provided.

The Israeli military says it has targeted missile manufacturing facilities used in its attacks, Iranian surface-to-air missiles and Iran's air-to-air capabilities to limit Israeli flight maneuvers.

Iran suspended all flights as airstrikes continued, but has now resumed operations.

What is the reaction of the US to this attack?

[Reporter]
White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Sabbett said Israel's airstrike on Iran should be the end of the fighting and warned Iran to refrain from further retaliatory attacks.

The U.S. also drew a line on the connection, saying it had no involvement in the attack.

The U.S. is said to have been informed of the plan just before Israel launched its airstrikes on Iran.

Reuters quoted a U.S. administration official as saying that the attack was a "selected" response proportionate to earlier Iranian attacks, and that the risk of civilian damage was low.

CNN reported that President Joe Biden has been briefed on the airstrikes and is monitoring the situation, but will not convene a separate security meeting.
