Next month, the first trial of the criminal case of Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is scheduled.

The Public Official Election Act case on the 15th and the perjury teacher case on the 25th,
Around the
ruling party, there are voices that the trial should be broadcast live for the people's right to know.

[Joo Jin-woo / National People's Power (last 22nd): The public's attention is actually focused on the sentence of Lee Jae-myung, who will be compensated for the presidential election of 43.4 billion won.]

In accordance with the court's bylaws, the presiding judge may permit the application for filming the date of sentencing with the consent of the defendant.

However, even if the defendant does not agree, it can be permitted if it is judged to be for the public interest.

The first case in which the first trial was broadcast live after the bylaws were established was the case of former President Park Geun Hye's "state affairs manipulation."Former President Park

filed an injunction with the court to limit the live broadcast of the trial, but it was not accepted.

Then, former President Lee Myung Bak's first trial sentence was broadcast live.

As such, the ruling party argues that the ruling party should balance the ruling and opposition parties, but the opposition party opposes the president's corruption case as a human rights violation, saying it cannot compare the representative Lee's case.

[Park Gyun-taek / Rep. of the Democratic Party (last 22nd): How about saying that I disagree with you because it is a very human rights violation to expose a scene where you are being tried in court?]

[Kim Jung-joong / Chief Justice of the Seoul Central District Court (last 22nd): As I've said, it's a matter of permission for the presiding judge and a matter of trial.]

Representative Lee also experienced a live broadcast of the trial in 2020 while he was governor of Gyeonggi-do Province, when the Supreme Court sentenced him to the Public Official Election Act, which was destroyed and returned to him for innocence.

Now, attention is focusing on whether the first trial sentence of Lee, the leader of the main opposition party and a leading presidential candidate, will be broadcast live in front of the public.
