Squid ranked second in Korean favorite seafood.

However, the number of squid caught on the east coast, a key fishing ground, has decreased significantly.

In the first quarter of this year, consignment sales of squid in Gangwon and Gyeongbuk recorded about 700 tons.

This is a whopping 93% decrease from five years ago.

Squid grows best when the seawater temperature is 15℃ to 23℃.

As the seawater temperature increased, the fishing grounds moved north.

According to a survey of the surface temperature of the East Sea seawater, days over 25 degrees have increased 30 times over 60 years.

In the meantime, more and more consumers are looking for relatively inexpensive imported seafood.

Salmon, shrimp, mackerel, and webfoot octopus are representative.

Imported seafood sales are on the rise in all major hypermarkets.Gizzard shad, an autumn delicacy called

is also in short supply.

The price nearly doubled as it was difficult to find gizzard shad even in seafood markets and marts.

Again, the rise in water temperature is the main reason, and it is time for countermeasures.
