Rep. Choo Mi-ae of the Democratic Party of Korea proposed an amendment to the "Act on Participation in United Nations Peacekeeping Activities," which calls for obtaining consent from the National Assembly even when sending individual soldiers to warring countries.

The current law requires the government to obtain prior consent from the National Assembly when it wants to send "national military units" abroad to participate in peacekeeping activities.

The amendment expanded it to apply to 'combination or union of soldiers acting on an individual basis'.

Choo emphasized that the consent of the National Assembly, the representative of the people, is essential considering that sending individual units to warring countries is directly related to the people's right to life and has an enormous impact on national security.
