Security management of Internet protocols and IP cameras, which have been pointed out as channels for leaking sensitive personal information images such as operating rooms, will be strengthened.

The Ministry of Science and ICT, the Personal Information Protection Committee, the Korea Communications Commission, and the National Police Agency have established measures to strengthen IP camera security and announced that they will impose a 3% fine on businesses that fail to prevent IP camera leakage due to insufficient management.

IP cameras, which can send images to other devices by connecting to wired and wireless Internet, are widely used in homes and businesses, but they have been pointed out as a problem because overseas direct purchase products such as Chinese products are not required to set passwords.

Accordingly, the government plans to install a function that encourages domestic manufactured or officially imported products to set high-security passwords from the design stage.

In addition, it plans to strengthen IP camera distribution crackdowns that have not received domestic radio wave certification and mandate the use of high-security products in places containing sensitive personal information such as hospitals and multi-use facilities in addition to the public sector.

However, this measure does not include sanctions for individuals who purchase IP cameras directly from overseas, so we plan to strengthen publicity first to set high-security passwords.
