U.S. envoy to Lebanon meets with negotiators...discussions on the draft ceasefire

U.S. President Joe Biden's Middle East envoy, Amos Hochstein, a senior White House adviser, visited Lebanon to discuss a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

Special envoy Hochstein arrived in Beirut this morning (19th) local time and met with Lebanese Parliament President Navi Berry, who was in charge of negotiating a ceasefire on behalf of Hezbollah.

The Lebanese government and Hezbollah agreed to a written proposal received last week from the United States and gave some comments, Reuters said, citing Berry's aide.

Lebanese government officials also said they were "very positive" about the prospect of the ceasefire, AFP reported.

The U.S. cease-fire reportedly includes the full implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, which was adopted in 2006 to end the Israeli-Hezbollah ground war, the establishment of an international supervisory committee, and the deployment of about 10,000 Lebanese troops to the border.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that even after a ceasefire is reached, operations should be systematically carried out against Hezbollah's attacks for security in the northern part of the country.
