The U.S. government has approved the sale of equipment and services worth $6.2 billion and 8.6 trillion won requested by the Korean government to upgrade South Korea's F-15K fighter jets.

The Pentagon's Defense Security and Cooperation Agency has announced that it has delivered essential certificates to Congress notifying them of such military sales.

With the approval of the sale, the F-15K will be equipped with the latest radar, which can process information 1,000 times faster than the existing mechanical radar, and will also be equipped with new electronic warfare equipment with a powerful self-defense system.

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the sales approval would strengthen allies' security to support U.S. foreign policy and national security goals.
