Korea Zinc, which is in a management dispute with MBK Partners and Youngpoong Alliance, has asked the government to designate its core technology, smelting technology, as a national core technology.
Korea Zinc said it has submitted an additional designation proposal to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to recognize two of its smelting technologies as national core technologies.
Earlier, Korea Zinc was judged as a national core technology by the government for its technology to manufacture high-nickel secondary battery precursors.
The application of Korea Zinc for smelting technology as a core national technology appears to be a work to block the future divisive sale of the MBK and Youngpoong alliance.
Companies with national core technologies will have the authority to approve them if a foreign government tries to acquire and merge them.
