Biden to leave office asks Congress for $24 billion in additional aid to Ukraine

The New York Post reported on the 26th local time that U.S. President Joe Biden, who is set to retire early next year, reportedly requested Congress for $24 billion in additional aid to Ukraine and 33.5 trillion won in our money.

Citing a White House budget management office report obtained by Politico Pro, the New York Post said President Biden requested $8 billion (about 11.1824 trillion won) to support Ukraine's armed forces and $16 billion (about 22.3648 trillion won) to replenish U.S. weapons stocks.

The Biden administration also delivered its intention to Congress last week to write off $4.65 billion worth of Ukraine debt.

In a related development, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CBS News earlier this month that Biden would state his position on the need for continued resources for Ukraine until the end of his term.

Republicans, however, are protesting Mr. Biden's move.

Republican Senator Mike Lee has made clear his opposition to additional aid, noting to X that nearly $4.7 billion in taxes has been blown away by President Biden's unilateral debt relief in Ukraine.

Earlier, the U.S. Congress approved a $60.8 billion (about 84 trillion won) military and economic aid package for Ukraine in April, nearly nine months after President Biden's request.
