A work gondola with one broken line hangs precariously from the hotel ceiling.
Helmets, sprays and sneakers are rolling around on the floor of the lobby, which is covered with structural air mats, among the fragments that have fallen everywhere.
At around 11:50 last night,
At the Lotte World Hotel in Jamsil, Seoul,
A worker in his 60s fell into the lobby on the first floor while working.
Mr. A, who fell from four stories high, went into cardiac arrest,
He was rushed to the
hospital, but he finally died.
[Witness: Bricks and steel pipes fell off. I heard screams, 119 calls, and I heard people asking me to save them....]
Firefighters were dispatched to rescue workers who were working at night when they were in an accident.
Mr. B, a colleague in his 40s who was working with him, caught the gondola when the line broke and managed to avoid a fall.
However, at the time of the accident, he was seriously injured and hung on for an hour, and was rescued and taken to a hospital.
All the workers in the accident were employees of subcontractors, and it was found that they started painting the ceiling around 10 p.m., which did not damage customers.
[Subcontractors official: (The employee) said there was a problem, so I ran in a hurry. They say the machine seems a bit weird, then stay still....]
Police and labor authorities will investigate whether safety rules have been properly followed at the site, including violations of the Serious Accident Punishment Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Lotte Hotel said it will cooperate as much as possible to find out how the accident occurred.
