It has been found that the Democratic Party of Korea has proposed a revision to the criminal law to reduce the scope of punishment for "third party bribery" applied to the Seongnam FC donation case of Chairman Lee Jae-myung.
Joo Chul-hyun of the Democratic Party of Korea proposed an amendment to the criminal law on the 28th of last month to establish a "reason for the fragmentation of illegality" to prevent the government, local governments, and public institutions from being punished if they receive support for job execution for the public good.
CEO Lee was indicted on charges of receiving more than 18 billion won in donations from seven companies, including Doosan Engineering & Construction and Naver, from October 2014 to September 2016 as the owner of Seongnam FC.
In response, CEO Lee has explained that the money paid to Seongnam FC was not a free donation, but was actually advertised and received through an advertising contract.
Regarding the repurposing of the Doosan Engineering & Construction site, which was pointed out as a donation, he explained that it was in the public interest to recover some of the profits and attract companies through repurposing.
