Philip Goldberg, the U.S. ambassador to South Korea, said last night that he firmly supports the country's democratic process over the emergency martial law.

Ambassador Goldberg said in a phone call with National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik earlier today (4th) that he believes the National Assembly and the political community will dynamically break the current situation through democracy, according to an official from the National Assembly Speaker's Office.

In response, Woo said the National Assembly will do its best to stabilize the current turmoil and asked for the U.S. unwavering confidence in Korea's democratic capabilities.

An official from the National Assembly speaker's office explained that the call lasted about eight minutes and was made at the request of the U.S. Embassy.
