Foreign media "worst political error...Calls for impeachment will grow"

Foreign media detailed the background and repercussions, saying martial law was once imposed in Korea, an exemplary democracy.

President Yoon, who was trying to escape the political crisis, seems to have made the worst mistake, and he predicted that calls for impeachment would be stronger.

However, foreign media saw the real reason for trying to escape the political crisis.

The Washington Post said President Yoon is in trouble due to his crushing defeat in the general election and low approval ratings, citing the response to the Itaewon disaster and the acceptance of Kim Gun-hee's luxury bags as the background.

The martial law was lifted in six hours, but the aftermath continued.

CNN reports that the latest incident will further increase calls for impeachment, which has continued in recent weeks.

An expert pointed out that it is the worst political error, saying it is questionable what President Yoon was trying to get.

The New York Times also quoted an expert as saying that President Yoon has engaged in political gambling, and predicted that conflicts, including impeachment, will continue in the future.

Some pointed out that it would be a significant blow to Korea's national image.

The BBC predicted that martial law would damage South Korea's reputation as a democracy as much as the Jan. 6 parliamentary riot in the United States,

The Reuters news agency also analyzed that it will not only have a negative impact on Korea's financial and foreign exchange markets, but will also make it difficult to participate in multilateral diplomacy.

AFP said that the lifting of martial law after a brief period of martial law in South Korea, which was praised as an example of democratization, shows the vulnerability of democracy as well as its ability to recover.
