CNN in the U.S. reported linking South Korea's emergency martial law to the Congressional riot that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's supporters caused in 2021 for disobeying the results of the presidential election.

CNN White House reporter MJ Lee and political media outlet Punchbowl News' John Bresnahan appeared on CNN's broadcast on the 3rd local time to discuss the similarities between the January 6 parliamentary riot and the Korean emergency martial law.Reporter

called Trump "a person who said he wanted to use the military to pursue his enemies" and pointed out that news on martial law is an issue for Americans to pay attention to, given that Trump is weeks away from taking office.

Punchbowl News' Bresnahan also claimed that Trump encouraged the use of force to achieve political purposes, saying, "This is what people and Democratic Party members fear when they think about Trump's return."

'January 6th Congressional riot' refers to a situation in which then-President Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington, D.C., threatening lawmakers and vandalizing them in January of the following year after he lost the 2020 presidential election.

Considered an unprecedented stain on the history of American democracy, then-President Trump was on the impeachment bench just before he left office, and after he left office, he was charged with attempting to overturn the results of the presidential election.

Bresnahan pointed out that the martial law incident in Korea was no less shocking than the "January 6" parliamentary riot.

"It's shocking to see this upheaval happen in a country that is one of the closest allies of the United States, which has been a democracy for decades," he said.
