An 11-year-old girl from Sierra Leone was rescued after spending three days alone in freezing waters after a boat carrying migrants sank in the Mediterranean Sea.
The German non-profit organization (NGO) Compass Collective said it found a girl drifting in the Mediterranean Sea at around 3 a.m. local time on the 11th and rescued her.
At the time of discovery, the girl was floating in the sea, wearing a life jacket and relying on two tire tubes.The girl
told rescuers that her boat was swept away by the storm and sank while sailing with 45 people from Sparks, Tunisia, North Africa.
"This girl is the only survivor of the disaster, and all 44 others are believed to have drowned," the Compus Collective said.The girl
did not eat water or food for three days before the rescue, and she was hypothermic, but fortunately, her consciousness was clear and her body responded well, said the doctor who participated in the rescue.
Near the scene of the accident, Italian coast guard and police boats continue to search for missing people, but no bodies or signs of the accident have been found so far, Ansah news agency explained.
