Amid the continued growth of Korean agricultural and livestock foods exported to Mexico in recent years, exports are expected to hit an all-time high this year.
The Mexican office of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation and KOTRA said Korea's exports of agricultural and livestock foods, including processed foods, to Mexico between January and October this year amounted to $48 million and 68.8 billion won in our money.
It is the largest ever, exceeding the all-time high of $42 million and 60 billion won in our money achieved last year, and it is an increase of 42.7% compared to the same period a year ago.
In particular, in the case of kimchi, exports increased by 53% from the same period a year ago, and it was effective to operate an experience booth at a large shopping mall.
In Mexico, thanks to the popularity of the Korean Wave, interest in Korean food continued to increase, growing evenly in items such as noodles, snacks, alcohol, and beverages, and exports such as mushrooms and kimchi were also strong.
KOTRA Mexico City Trade Center said that exports of agri-food have steadily increased since 2020, adding that local Korean restaurants and Korean marts have seen an increase in visitors to try Korean food seen in dramas.
The Korea International Cultural Exchange Promotion Agency estimated that Mexican consumers mainly encounter Korean food through SNS or YouTube, and that the average monthly expenditure related to Korean food is around 60,000 won.
