The People's Power filed a petition with the court, saying Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, is deliberately delaying the trial of the appeals court in violation of the Public Official Election Act.

The party's legal advisory committee urged the court to actively exercise its right to command the lawsuit, saying that Lee was delaying the trial because he did not appoint a lawyer and repeatedly did not receive a notice of receipt of litigation records.

He then argued that it is necessary to exercise the right to command the lawsuit, such as appointing a public defender to receive a notice of receipt of litigation records on behalf of him or dismissing the application for unnecessary witnesses.

He added that if the trial continues to be deliberately delayed, there must be a substantial disadvantage so that the trial can be sentenced within three months as stipulated by the law.

Representative Lee was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation in the first trial of a violation of the Public Official Election Act on the 15th of last month, but if the sentence is confirmed by the Supreme Court, he cannot run for president due to restrictions on his right to run for 10 years.
