Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment trial is the eighth such case to come to the Constitutional Court this year.

While interested in when the conclusion will be reached, the Constitutional Court emphasized that it would put President Yoon's case first.

Reporter Kim Joo-young reports.

The case number attached to the impeachment trial of the president of Yoon Suk Yeol is 2024 Heonna 8.

Considering the "Heona" case code on the impeachment case, it means that it is the eighth impeachment trial this year.

From Choi Hae-jae, chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, Lee Jin-sook, chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, to Lee Chang-soo, chief prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, seven cases received this year,

We are waiting for the judgment of Son Jun-sung prosecutor case after case, which has not yet been concluded. Some analysts said that the impeachment trial of President Yoon

may be held after a considerable amount of time depending on the order of receipt, which the Constitutional Court dismissed.

I mean, I'm going to hear it before other cases.

[Lee Jin / Public Information Officer of the Constitutional Court: This case is the top priority in the impeachment trial.]

As a result, the Constitutional Court is expected to speed up the hearing, leaving the internal rule that the case will be processed within 180 days.

The fact that judges Moon Hyung-bae and Lee Mi-sun will retire in April next year is also a part of the analysis that the Constitutional Court will proceed with the judgment faster.

[Cha Jin-ah / Professor of law at Korea University] Since seven people have to make a decision on the impeachment trial (when the two retire), it may be difficult for the public to understand, we will proceed with the hearing as soon as possible....]

According to Article 51 of the Constitutional Court Act, there is a possibility that the Constitutional Court will suspend the judgment when the criminal trial on President Yoon's rebellion charges begins.

However, it is pointed out that the possibility is low as it is the discretion of the Constitutional Court, not mandatory, and the Constitutional Court has expressed its willingness to make a prompt judgment.
