Diplomatic conflicts between the two countries are showing signs of brewing as the Polish government protested after Hungary allowed Polish opposition lawmakers to seek asylum.

Hungarian Prime Minister Orban Viktor's chief of staff granted political asylum to former deputy justice minister Marcin Romanovski, an opposition lawmaker wanted for fraud and other charges in Poland on Wednesday.

Poland's foreign ministry issued a statement saying it considers it "hostile" and would call the Hungarian ambassador to the country to protest.

It also decided to summon its ambassador to Hungary to respond to the problem.

The Polish Foreign Ministry has warned the Hungarian government that it will file a complaint with the European Court of Justice (ECJ) if it does not extradite Romanovski, Bloomberg said.
