Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin, who had a surprise meeting with President-elect Trump, entered the country through Incheon International Airport.
He declined to comment on the contents of his conversation with Trump, but said Trump showed interest in the situation in South Korea.
[Jung Yong-jin / Shinsegae Group Chairman: Korea is a powerful country, so please trust and wait. We only said that we will come back to normal soon.]
The meeting was arranged by Trump Jr., the eldest son of Trump, who has been close to him for a long time.
Chairman Chung stayed at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump's home, for the past five nights and six days and met with key figures.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has emerged as a key player in the Trump administration, is one of them.
[Jung Yongjin / Shinsegae Group Chairman: We just had a brief greeting. (Did you care about the situation in Korea?) Not interested.]
Since the U.S. presidential election in November, Chairman Chung is the first to disclose a meeting between Trump and a Korean figure.
In particular, it drew more attention as each country was struggling to build relationships against Trump's pressure on America First.
Attention is also focusing on whether Chairman Chung will serve as a bridge between the two countries.
[Jung Yong-jin / Shinsegae Group Chairman: I didn't think that much. I'm trying to work hard in my position from the perspective of the business....]
Chairman Chung has not been contacted about the invitation to Trump's inauguration next month, but he said he would be willing to comply with the request to participate in the government delegation.
